Virtual/Zoom

This training series is for acupuncturists and acupuncture students who want to make their practice more trauma-informed and value feeling embodied and attuned as they practice medicine. Through a combination of lecture and somatic practices we will explore the autonomic nervous system, with specific attention to polyvagal theory, in order to better identify and tend to survival states in our patients and ourselves. We will put this in the context of the treatment space as well as the larger culture in which we live, acknowledging the ways in which systemic oppression and unattended privilege and bias perpetuate harm in healing spaces.

Developing our interpersonal neurobiology skills to assist with ongoing informed consent, respectful communication (through words, touch, presence) and compassionate, non-judgemental attention we will begin to reshape our own autonomic nervous systems and those of our patients, moving us all towards a greater felt sense of safety and connection. This positively benefits treatment goals, health outcomes and prevents vicarious trauma.

This training takes place virtually over four consecutive Saturdays and is a prerequisite for a the Trauma-Informed Acupuncture Mentorship: Deepening into Relational Medicine, a small group deep dive into trauma informed care and the treatment of trauma, which will take place over a period of months beginning Fall 2023.
